The following pictures are from the top rotor of a debarker machine with gearbox. There are three rotors in a debarking machine.
The purpose of the top rotor is to work with the other two, to maximize the debarking of logs.
This nearly 30,000 lb. top rotor came in with what was believed to be a gearbox issue.
Upon review, the crew from Miller discovered the gearbox was fine while the shaft needed repair.
The shaft was removed with the help of a 100-ton hydraulic jack and was consequently sent out to the manufacturer to determine the cause of failure.
