Scarfing Machine in Process

The Miller Industrial Manufacturing team is currently working on the construction of our latest scarfing machine for L-Tec.
This scarfing machine will be completed using four of the divisions of Miller. It has been fabricated, machined, has pieces cut via our waterjet, and finally assembled. This machine will be completed with a year’s worth of work.
The machine operates like a giant wood planer but for steel. It uses torches (scarfing units) instead of blades to remove impurities from large ingots of steel. These machines use high-pressured oxygen at 30-degree angles between two rows of preheated torches to melt the impurities from the steel.
Once this process is completed, it moves on to a high stream of water pressure to blow waste metal from the slab of steel.
